A special thank you to SEC Historical Society Chair Meredith Cross and WilmerHale for hosting the program and reception at their Washington, DC office.
In celebration of an upcoming exhibition on the history of the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of General Counsel (OGC), the SEC Historical Society invites you to attend a special program on the evolution of the OGC.
The OGC has long served as the agency's chief legal office, responsible for advising the Chair and Commissioners, providing legal advice on all aspects of SEC activities, and handling litigation involving the agency.
Among many responsibilities the OGC drafts appellate and amicus briefs, reviews enforcement recommendations and rulemaking, and interpretive releases prepared by the SEC's divisions. It also provides legal policy analysis on federal securities laws, ensures compliance, and manages legal issues for the agency.
Join us for a conversation with seven former General Counsels whose leadership spans the past 42 years. They will discuss the issues and events that have determined the role of the OGC and shaped securities law over time.
This panel honors the legacy of the Society's founder and the 26th Chairman of the SEC, Harvey L. Pitt. Chairman Pitt was the youngest General Counsel in the agency's history, having been appointed in 1975 at the age of 30.
If you wish to donate to the curation of the new OGC exhibit, you can make a contribution to the Society.
The SEC Historical Society, through its virtual museum, preserves the history of financial regulation. The Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization separate from the SEC.
