Fireside Chat – SEC Office of the General Counsel

Join the SEC Historical Society for the start of the 5th anniversary broadcast season of the Fireside Chats.

From now through May 2009, the Fireside Chats will be among the educational activities in the SEC Historical Society’s commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Each chat will focus on the distinctive history and work of one of the major SEC divisions and offices.

The March 11th Fireside Chat looked at the SEC Office of the General Counsel. Join two former SEC General Counsels – Daniel Goelzer, a member of the Board of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board; and Giovanni Prezioso, a partner with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP – in discussion with moderator Professor Theresa Gabaldon, Lyle T. Alverson Professor of Law, The George Washington University Law School.

The Fireside Chat is free to all museum visitors; no advance registration is required.

Eric Summergrad, a former SEC Deputy SolicitorRemembering Eric Summergrad

The Fireside Chat on the SEC Office of the General Counsel remembers Eric Summergrad, a former SEC Deputy Solicitor, who died September 11, 2007. The SEC Historical Society thanks members of the Summergrad family for contributing to sponsor the Fireside Chat in Eric’s memory, and for sharing materials by and about Eric for inclusion in the museum collections, including:

Mr. Summergrad was awarded the SEC’s Philip A. Loomis, Jr. Award in 1995. He was closely involved in two significant insider trading cases: Dirks v. SEC (1983) and United States v. O’Hagan (1997) (see "Fair To All People" gallery).
